Nghe An: Survey and expand geographical indication of Vinh orange in 5 districts

(Baonghean.vn) - In the coming time, the Department of Science and Technology will investigate, survey and evaluate to determine the area to register to add to the list of orange varieties protected by the geographical indication "Vinh" and the area that needs to expand the protection of the geographical indication of Vinh orange.

Previously, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien signed Decision No. 4662/QD-UBND on approving the explanation of the Science and Technology Project "Research on adding new orange varieties to the list of orange varieties protected by Vinh geographical indication and expanding the scope of protection of "Vinh" geographical indication for orange fruit products in the province".

During the survey and analysis process, for orange trees, the soil sample for growing oranges will be analyzed according to the regulations of 16 typical physical and chemical indicators: Humidity, mechanical properties, PH, OC, N... For oranges, the analysis indicators: Morphology, sensory, quality, sugar content, Vitamin C, Acid, Brix, water.

Accordingly, localities with large areas of oranges will be investigated and surveyed to expand the protection of the Vinh orange geographical indication, including: Yen Thanh, Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tan Ky. At the same time, the Valenxia orange variety (V2) is proposed to be added to the list of orange varieties protected by the Vinh geographical indication.

More than 10 years ago, according to Decision No. 386/QD-SHTT dated May 31, 2007 of the Department of Intellectual Property on Granting Certificates of registration of geographical indications for Vinh oranges, there were only 5 districts: Tan Ky, Quy Hop, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc, Nghia Dan, with an area of ​​over 1,681 hectares. There were 3 orange varieties protected for geographical indications of Vinh oranges: Xa Doai, Van Du, Song Con.

Currently, Nghe An's orange area is 5,000 hectares./.
