His family was poor, his father died early, as the eldest son in the family, Nguyen Van Son (born in 1980) had to earn a living from a very young age. In 2011, he fell in love and married Hoang Thi Kieu. So the couple had nothing, both paternal and maternal families were poor, so they had to work hard to make a living.

Living with her old mother in a dilapidated house, two children were born one after another. Although they thought they were poor, God blessed them with health to earn a living and raise their children. Unexpectedly, during a health check-up, they received bad news: Ms. Kieu had skin cancer and was in poor health, unable to work. Baby Lan had kidney failure and had to undergo dialysis every month to stay alive.

To have money to support her children's medical examination, Son's mother had to go to Lam Dong to sell lottery tickets. Son had to go to Laos to work for hire. His work was irregular, on days when he had work, Son earned 250-300 thousand VND. After deducting food, he saved up and sent 4 to 5 million VND to his wife and children. Kieu's mother and children lived at home in a small, dilapidated house that could collapse at any time. Worried about the safety of the dilapidated house, relatives and friends encouraged the couple to borrow money from the bank and relatives helped build a small, solid house.

The house had just been completed, Mr. Son hurriedly went to Laos to work with his friends. After only a few months of working, his family heard the news of his death due to drowning in the Mekong River on November 4, 2018. Friends called for donations, and 2 days later, Mr. Son was brought back to his hometown for burial according to local customs.

The most painful thing was that when she heard the news of her husband's death, Ms. Kieu could not return home to mourn or burn incense for him because he was being treated in the hospital. Her two children did not yet understand what was happening.

Brothers and neighbors came to encourage, visit and offer condolences to Ms. Kieu's family. Photo: Dang Tri

When such an accident happened, the Party Committee and the commune government also visited and assigned the task to organizations to call for support for the family, both for the burial and at the same time to have a little money to serve the current life of Ms. Kieu and her children.

Ms. Kieu's family is in dire need of the community's kind and sharing arms so that Lan can continue to live, so that the mother of two children can prolong her life to support her two children in the future.
