Former police officer who "bragged" about being the Minister's nephew to trick people into getting a job, gets 14 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - "No" is the nephew of the former Minister of Public Security. He has connections with many high-ranking leaders to get a job in the police force. Le Xuan Duong embezzled nearly 3.2 billion VND.
On November 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Le Xuan Duong (born in 1983, residing in Bich Dao Ward, Ninh Binh City, Ninh Binh Province) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
According to the indictment, in August 2014, through some friends, Mr. Nguyen Quang D. (born in 1961, residing in Hien Son commune, Do Luong district) met Le Xuan Duong. At that time, Duong was working in the police force. Duong introduced himself to everyone as the nephew of the former Minister of Public Security and knew many high-ranking leaders who could help him get a job in the police force. Mr. D. asked Duong to help his son get a job at the Police College. Duong offered a fee of 400 million VND/job. However, after receiving the money from Mr. D., Le Xuan Duong did not get a job as promised but paid off his debt and spent it on personal expenses.

Using this trick, Le Xuan Duong appropriated 620 million VND from Mr. Le Huu D. (born 1964); 400 million VND from Mr. Nguyen Huu C. (born 1968); and 500 million VND from Mr. Thai Doan T. (born 1961). These victims all reside in Do Luong district.
In addition, Duong also appropriated 300 million VND from Mr. Chu Van Th. (residing in Ky Loi commune, Ky Anh district); 400 million VND from Ms. Nguyen Thi L. (born in 1976, residing in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province).
At the trial, Le Xuan Duong admitted to all his crimes. Duong confessed that he had spent all the money he had embezzled and paid off debts. After causing the incident, the defendant’s family compensated the victims 480 million VND.
Based on the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced the defendant Le Xuan Duong to 14 years in prison for the crime of “Fraudulent appropriation of property”. Regarding the civil part, the defendant was required to compensate the entire amount of money he had appropriated from the victims.
