(Baonghean.vn) - The shocking case caused by Nguyen Dinh Luc was like a punch to the chest of a father who had just suffered a stroke. In court, he sat with his head in his hands as he listened to his son recount the case.

At 70 years old, Mr. Nguyen Dinh M. traveled from Ha Tinh to Nghe An to attend his son's trial. Nguyen Dinh Luc (born in 1991, residing in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province) - the defendant in the case, did not pay much attention to his father, just acting indifferent like a stranger.

Luc is the 8th and youngest child of Mr. M. and his wife. During the time he was pregnant with Luc, his wife was often sick and had to take many medications, which greatly affected the child's development. When she gave birth to Luc, she passed away. Mr. M. alone took care of the children, breastfed and cared for his youngest child, who had to suffer.

It is unclear whether it was due to the influence of his mother's medication during pregnancy or because he was spoiled since childhood, but Luc's temperament was somewhat erratic. As he grew older, that erratic nature became more evident. While his older siblings studied hard and worked hard, Luc always made Mr. M. sad, struggling to finish second grade and then dropping out. Not studying or listening to anyone, Luc made everyone feel bored with his pranks and thefts.

“He sold everything he could to spend. He stole everything in the house and then stole from the neighbor’s house. In 2013, he was arrested and sent to a re-education facility for 2 years. I thought that after 2 years in the re-education camp, he would be better behaved, but he came back worse than before,” Luc’s brother said.

After leaving the reformatory, Luc also left home to wander, rarely returning home, even when his father had a stroke and was bedridden. One morning, Luc was seen jumping on the bus home, his face panicked. Everyone thought that while wandering around looking for food, with his erratic temperament, Luc had gotten into a fight with someone and then fled back to his hometown. But then, one day, Luc's confession about beating a vagrant to death in Vinh shocked Mr. M. and Luc's siblings.

The force was rebellious, the force was unruly, the force was thieving and fearless, but the force of murder was something no one dared to think about. But that was the truth. That truth was like a sledgehammer falling on Mr. M's head, chest, and old, skinny body that had just recovered from a stroke. If he committed a crime, he must pay for it! He thought so and advised his son to turn himself in.

At the trial, he and another son sat in the defendant's guardian area, just a few steps away from Luc, but the distance between father and son seemed so far away. He held his head and bowed his head as he listened to his son recount the case.

While wandering around begging in Vinh City, Nguyen Dinh Luc and Hoang Van Than got to know each other. Being a blind man, Luc stole money from Than many times, and was once discovered by Than and slapped twice. A month later, Luc still had not calmed down his desire for revenge, so on March 22, this young man went to find Than to beat him. In the evening of the same day, Luc found Than drunk and sleeping in the Cua Nam flower garden (Vinh City). Luc took 30,000 VND from Than's pocket to buy a bowl of pho. Thinking that the victim had a lot of money, Luc had the intention of stealing it, so he returned to where Than was lying.

To avoid detection, Luc took the victim to a deserted place. When asked for money, Mr. Than said he didn't have any. Luc angrily took a rock and hit the victim on the head. The brick broke, so Luc took a tile to hit him again. When he discovered that Mr. Than was no longer breathing, Luc searched his pocket and took 40 thousand dong, then dragged the victim into a bush, covered him with a blanket and left.

During the investigation, it was found that Nguyen Dinh Luc had many abnormal psychological symptoms, so the authorities requested a psychiatric assessment for this suspect. The conclusion of the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry showed that before, during and after committing the crime, Nguyen Dinh Luc had limited ability to perceive and control his behavior.

"The defendant used the 40 thousand he robbed from Mr. Than to pay for the fare home," Nguyen Dinh Luc testified in court. Regarding the reason for the crime, Luc said he was angry that when he asked for money, Mr. Than not only refused to give it to him, but also slapped him twice.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Nguyen Dinh Luc to 18 years in prison for “Murder” and 4 years in prison for “Robbery”. In total, the defendant Luc must serve a sentence of 22 years in prison. Regarding the civil part, the panel ordered the defendant to compensate more than 112 million VND to the victim’s family; provide child support for Mr. Than with 1.5 million VND per month; and provide support for the victim’s parents with 250,000 VND per month each.

The trial ended with a well-deserved sentence for the murderer and robber. Mr. M. slowly left the court, but suddenly stopped when someone said, “For someone like Luc, the longer he goes to prison, the less suffering his family will have.” The wrinkles on the father’s forehead pressed together, making his face even more distorted and miserable. After all, the murderer was his son!
