Ukraine has tested a new cruise missile, which is planned to strengthen coastal defense in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, - the head of the National Security and Defense Committee of Ukraine, Aleksandr Turchinov, said.
The test took place at a training ground in the Odessa region. According to Turchinov, the missile test was successful. He noted that the new missiles can hit targets at a distance of 280 km.
The head of the National Security and Defense Council also said that the military "invented a coastal defense system with the support of the upgraded S-125 missile complex."

"Today's task with cruise missiles was to test the range and accuracy of hitting targets on the sea surface. According to the results of destroying water vehicles, the upgraded S-125 proved its effectiveness. Eight launches were made, eight targets were destroyed on the sea surface," Turchinov was quoted by the press service of the National Security and Defense Council.
The successfully tested complex will significantly increase the protection of the Black Sea and Azov Sea coasts, Turchinov added.
After the end of the tests, Turchinov held a meeting with missile technology developers and the military leadership "to determine priority directions for strengthening the protection of the Black Sea-Azov region".
