Moscow concerned about NATO, EU increasing influence in Balkans
(Baonghean.vn) - The Russian Foreign Minister said that NATO and EU efforts to increase their influence over the Balkan Peninsula will destabilize the general situation in Europe.
Moscow is concerned that efforts by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU) to increase their influence on the Balkan Peninsula will create a new dividing line and destabilize the overall situation in Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with a Greek newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton.

"The situation in the Balkans is causing a lot of concern," he said. "We see that NATO and the EU are taking steps to increase their influence on the peninsula. They are pressuring the Balkans to make a wrong choice: Moscow or Washington and Brussels," Lavrov added.
According to the Russian Foreign Minister, actions like these "destabilize the European security architecture, thereby increasing tensions and regional division".
