Expensive orchids that the rich hunt for during Tet
Not only do orchids have a long lifespan, they also have unique colors and shapes, so many tycoons are willing to spend billions of dong to buy them.
1. White 5-petal orchid (mutation)
Considered the most expensive orchid today, the Phi Diep orchid is being sought after by orchid enthusiasts to display during Tet, although the price can range from several million to billions of dong.
Previously, a mutant orchid club in Han River (Da Nang) bought a 5-petal white Gia Hac orchid root from an owner in Ninh Thuan for 6.8 billion VND. This is also the largest transaction since the beginning of the year.
Mr. Vo Van Tuyen (Binh Thuan) - the "father" of the above orchid said that he took care of the plant for more than 30 months before it bloomed. The special thing is that all five petals are white and shiny. Taking care of this mutant orchid requires meticulousness, meticulousness as well as risk acceptance. A beautiful mutant flower needs to meet the following factors: round, plump, shiny. The "eyes" are scratched, neat, clean, far from the lobes and not smudged. The whiter the "nose" is, the more valuable it is.
Mr. Vo Anh Truyen, the club's director, said that Mr. Tuyen's orchid is a unique, rare species that is highly valued by domestic orchid enthusiasts. Currently, this type of orchid is gradually depleting. This is also the most expensive plant that the club has purchased so far. Previously, a vase of this type of flower was bought by a tycoon in Hoa Binh for 2.7 billion VND. Or a basket of wild Phi Diep orchids in Nghe An was also sold for 600 million VND to an orchid enthusiast in Hai Duong.
2. Dendrobium orchid
The French Cymbidium orchid was born from a Taiwanese laboratory with the parents being Dendrobium and Cymbidium. They are popular during the Lunar New Year because of their beautiful colors and blooming right on Tet.
Ms. Thao, in Ho Chi Minh City, said that her garden of Dendrobium orchids is grown in Lam Dong but is mostly sold to tycoons in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, each basket of orchids costs 1-3 million VND. This type has a deep pink color and a light, faint fragrance. The stem of Dendrobium orchids has characteristic purple-gray lines. The leaves of Dendrobium orchids are quite similar to the leaves of the crane and have purple lines like the stem. Dendrobium orchids are a type of orchid that is suitable for many climates. The stem of Dendrobium orchids can be one meter long if planted and cared for well.
"Even though Tet is still two months away, this is always the best-selling orchid in my garden. So far I have had about ten orders for this type," said Ms. Thao.
3. Cymbidium orchid
Cymbidium orchids are sought after by the rich every Tet holiday. Mr. Vuong Xuan Phuong, the owner of an orchid farm in Sa Pa, said that this year the weather was not favorable, so many pots bloomed early. There are not as many giant orchid pots in the garden as in previous years. Therefore, the price of this year's products may increase.
In early 2018, a real estate tycoon in Hanoi also spent more than 1 billion VND to buy 5 pots of Cymbidium orchids to celebrate Tet and give to friends. This type of flower has a rare beauty, with clusters of emerald green or green flowers that look like falling stars, a meter long.
According to Mr. Phuong, growing cymbidium orchids is very difficult and requires perseverance. In particular, this type in the Northern region is only suitable for the Sa Pa climate, so the quantity supplied to the market is not much. To have a pot of cymbidium orchids to sell for Tet, growers have to spend 3 years sowing the bulbs and one year taking care of them. To have a supply every year, Mr. Phuong often plants in rotation. Not only that, the rate of the plants blooming is also very low. If you know the technique and are lucky, two-thirds of the flowers blooming is considered a success.
4. Japanese Queen Phalaenopsis Orchid
This type is quite popular during Tet. However, most of the rich people hunt for it and order it two months in advance.
Ms. Hoa, the owner of an imported flower shop in Hanoi, said that this type of flower is difficult to import and expensive, so she has not imported it yet. Currently, there are 2 customers who have placed orders, but she has to wait for 10 orders before planning to import.
Last year, this type of flower cost up to 10 million VND per branch. This year, the price may increase because of the high costs and the scarcity of goods. The flower has a long lifespan and delicately blooming petals. However, only connoisseurs can easily distinguish it. Because the market has many similar varieties, if you do not distinguish clearly, it is easy to confuse, so few stores import it.
