From the victim's report about a subject renting a self-driving car and then appropriating it, detectives from Team 4 began to verify. On December 4, when Thang was pawning the Fortuner, he was caught red-handed by detectives with the evidence and a set of fake documents. Previously, he had appropriating 7 cars of various types and using fake documents to pawn each car for 250-450 million VND.

Through investigation, Thang said that the conditions for renting a self-driving car were quite easy, only requiring a notarized ID card and household registration, so Thang came up with the idea of fraud. After renting the car, Thang went online to find someone to make fake documents for 5.5 million VND/set.

From Thang's clue, the police also arrested Vu Ngoc Anh Dung (born in 1981), residing in Tan Thoi Hiep ward, district 12. Searching Dung's residence, the police seized many types of vehicle registration papers, notary office seals and some other fake documents.
