Nghe An farmers earn hundreds of millions each year from Thai apple varieties
(Baonghean.vn) - Many households in Nghia Dan are currently expanding the area of Thai apple cultivation, because this apple variety produces large fruit with superior quality compared to many local apple varieties.
With the advantage of fruit nearly 3 times larger than the domestic apple variety, beautiful shiny skin, sweet and crunchy taste, appleThai Lan is currently being chosen by many people in Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district to replace some ineffective trees.
In recent years, Thai apples have become a suitable crop for the land and soil conditions here, with the area rapidly expanding to nearly ten hectares.
Being a pioneer in the movement to change the crop structure since 2010, but due to not thoroughly understanding the soil quality, the entire orange and tangerine area of more than 5 sao of Ms. Vo Thi Van's family in Bai hamlet, Nghia Lien commune was not effective, gradually she had to cut down almost all the trees. Realizing that many households in the area had successfully grown Thai apples with high economic efficiency, Ms. Van switched to growing this apple variety.

Ms. Van said that apple trees adapt to many types of soil, especially sandy soil and sunny weather. When planting, you only need to make beds, fertilize the roots, put in poles, and prune the branches for the tree to grow well and bear fruit.
"Thai apples can be harvested after about 6 months of planting. The average yield per crop of an apple tree 3 years old or older is more than 120kg; the "vigorous" time to effectively exploit the fruit is from 8 to 10 years. Each season, apples are harvested for 3 to 4 months, starting from July to the end of December... With the advantage of large, crispy, sweet fruit, Thai apples are sold at the garden for 25,000 - 35,000 VND/kg", - Ms. Van added.
Also earning a high income from Thai apple trees is the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam in Heu 1 hamlet, Nghia Lien commune. With more than 300 apple trees, she earned about 100 million VND in the first crop last year.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam said that her family had previously grown many other fruit trees, but only apple trees gave the highest and most stable yield.
According to Mr. Pham Van Ngoan - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghia Lien commune, recently, many households have boldly converted ineffective crops to fruit trees such as oranges and apples for good income. In the near future, the commune will build a brand for local apples./.
