Dung and Cuong pretended to crowd and block the bus entrance so Cong could steal phones from student passengers.

On December 27, Hanoi People's Court opened the first instance trial of Do Dinh Cong (29 years old), Nguyen Tien Dung (23 years old) and Tran Manh Cuong (23 years old), all from Phu Tho province, for the crime of property theft.

According to the indictment, the three defendants all had previous convictions for the above crimes and were living on the streets of Hanoi. To have money to spend, Cong discussed with the other two defendants to pickpocket and steal on buses. Accordingly, all three got on the same bus and stood at the entrance. When they arrived at the bus stops, passengers gathered to get off, Dung and Cuong were responsible for keeping watch, jostling, and providing cover, while Cong picked the victims' belongings.

At 6 a.m. on October 1, the three got on the Noi Bai - Kim Ma route from Dong Anh district. When the bus reached the Xuan Dinh - Pham Van Dong intersection, they discovered a young man with a Sony Xperia phone in his front pocket, preparing to get off the bus. The three defendants approached. Cong stole the victim's phone, passed it from hand to hand to Dung, and got off at the next stop. As soon as they got off the bus, they removed the SIM card.

Just one hour later, with the same trick, the pickpocket group stole two more phones, a Sony and a Samsung Galaxy J5, from two students on the bus.

In the morning, while preparing to sell, Cong's group was arrested by undercover criminal police.

After half a day of trial, the court sentenced Cong to 15 months, Cuong to 12 months, and Dung to 10 months in prison.
