Vo Trong Thang lives in Thong Nhat village, Mau Duc commune (Con Cuong). His father died in an accident when he was only 9 years old. His mother took on the responsibility of raising two young children. His family was poor and living in difficult conditions, but the orphan boy always tried to excel in his studies. From grade 1 to grade 12, he was an excellent and advanced student. During his high school years, his house was nearly 10km away from school, the road was always muddy, so the student named Thang had to stay at the school, walk back and forth every week, and take care of his own daily activities.

In this poor rural area, people's knowledge is limited, especially in terms of legal knowledge, so Thang dreams of studying Law to return to help his fellow countrymen. With that dream, in 2005 Thang took the entrance exam and was admitted to Hanoi Law University, and 4 years later became a Bachelor of Law.

After graduating, it took Thang 2 years to find a job. In 2011, Thang was recruited by the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province and assigned to work at the People's Procuracy of Con Cuong district. After working for a short time, his mother became seriously ill and passed away. From then on, Thang had to take care of his younger sister in place of his mother.

Efforts to fight against wrongful convictions and missed crimes

Working in the Procuracy, Vo Trong Thang has held many positions such as office, statistics, complaint and denunciation inspection, and practicing the right to prosecute and prosecutor initiating, investigating, prosecuting, and trying criminal cases. “In recent years, the biggest problem for the prosecution agencies is to prevent wrongful convictions and criminals from escaping. To limit this problem, I have constantly researched, learned, and found many initiatives and measures to minimize it,” Thang said.

When assigned by the unit leader to exercise the right to prosecute and inspect sources of information about crimes and criminal cases, Thang always proactively coordinates with investigators to resolve denunciations and reports about crimes, proposes specific and detailed requests to verify reports, collects sufficient information, and then proceeds to classify subjects. For difficult and complicated denunciations and reports, Thang proposes to coordinate inter-sectoral meetings to unify the resolution, avoiding the situation of criminalizing civil affairs and vice versa.

After more than 7 years of working, with carefulness, enthusiasm and dedication to work, Vo Trong Thang has always completed the assigned tasks. Notably, for 5 consecutive years (2014 - 2018), Thang has always been classified as having completed his tasks excellently; for 3 consecutive years, he has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level; was awarded a Certificate of Merit and recognized as Emulation Fighter of the People's Procuracy sector in 2017 by the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy.
