General Secretary and President: Police must always keep themselves clean and not fall into corruption

Speaking at the 74th National Public Security Conference held this morning, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong reviewed the very important initial results in 2018 and the first half of the term.

That result is the result of the solidarity and efforts of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire political system, including the extremely important role of the armed forces in general and the people's public security force in particular.

Strictly handling officers who commit violations does not reduce the position and prestige of the Police.

"The Party, State and people always acknowledge and appreciate the efforts, endeavors and great contributions of the police force," the General Secretary emphasized four important results of the police force, including the fight against corruption and social evils; streamlining the apparatus...

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong also acknowledged that the public security sector has frankly pointed out, handled and proposed to handle a number of cadres and party members who have shown signs of degradation in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, and disciplinary violations; handled many existing problems in personnel work from previous years and previous terms, including high-ranking leaders and commanders, initially preventing and repelling signs of degradation.

"Reality shows that strictly handling some officials who have committed violations does not reduce the position and prestige of the Public Security as some people fear, but on the contrary, it further affirms the strong political determination, courage, discipline, and order, and enhances the prestige of the People's Public Security force," the General Secretary and President emphasized.

In addition, the police sector has closely coordinated with the Army and judicial and internal affairs agencies, especially in investigating, prosecuting and trying many serious cases, stably resolving many complicated security and order issues right from the beginning and at the grassroots level.

The General Secretary assessed that the position of the Public Security force in the region and internationally has been enhanced through efforts to strengthen and expand international cooperation, especially the effective implementation of the security dialogue mechanism with many important partners, contributing to building and enhancing political trust...

The General Secretary and President pointed out three basic reasons that helped the police sector achieve the above results. These are thoroughly grasping and seriously implementing the leadership and direction of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government, combined with strong innovation in leadership and command at all levels; promoting the spirit of initiative, especially in promptly detecting and handling newly arising issues, complex and sensitive issues, and hot spots that cause social outrage; regular and effective coordination with ministries, branches, and localities...

"On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I warmly welcome, commend and congratulate the achievements of the Public Security Forces in all aspects of work in 2018 and the first half of the term. We especially acknowledge and honor the examples of police officers and soldiers who truly "forget themselves for the country, serve the people", are intelligent, brave, do not fear danger, accept sacrifice, overcome all difficulties, and excellently complete assigned tasks", said the General Secretary and President.

Not tempted by trivial fame and fortune

In addition, the General Secretary and President suggested that it is necessary to frankly point out and clarify the responsibilities and causes of a number of limitations and shortcomings, including loopholes in the management of cadres and internal security, allowing a number of serious negative incidents to occur, with a number of cadres in the sector being disciplined, stripped of their titles, and criminally prosecuted, affecting the reputation of the people's police force.

Emphasizing that in the coming time, besides the fundamental opportunities and advantages, we also have to face many difficulties and challenges, the General Secretary and President noted 5 important tasks in 2019.

Among them are the tasks of maintaining national security, ensuring social order and safety in all situations; absolutely not being subjective or negligent; not being passive or surprised; promptly and effectively preventing plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces, preventing terrorism, disturbance and sabotage.

In handling complex security and order issues, it is necessary to thoroughly grasp the viewpoint of "taking people as the root" and promote the 4 on-site motto: "On-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and on-site logistics"...

At the same time, proactively coordinate with functional agencies in prevention and combat, not allowing enemies and bad elements to infiltrate, entice, connect, and influence "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the organization.

Heighten vigilance, promptly detect and resolutely fight against hostile and erroneous viewpoints; expose plots and actions that take advantage of some negative cases and incidents to damage the great national unity bloc, and lower the role and prestige of the Party, State and people's armed forces.

"Every police officer and soldier must uphold their fighting spirit, constantly self-reflect, self-correct, self-cultivate, and train according to the requirements of character and qualities, and build relationships as taught by Uncle Ho in the six teachings.
