Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Thai Thanh Quy: Requesting the press to be concerned with the province's development

Comrades: Thai Thanh Quy - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the press conference. Also attending the press conference were representatives of leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches and sectors; leaders of a number of districts, cities and towns; leaders and reporters of local press agencies and those stationed in the area.

Budget revenue target of 15,000 billion VND

At the press conference, on behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Do announced the socio-economic situation in 2018 and the socio-economic development plan for 2019 with 3 key areas and 11 important groups of solutions.

It is noteworthy that the growth rate set for the whole year of 2019 reached at least 9.5% and budget revenue reached over 15,000 billion VND.

At the press conference, 13 delegates representing press agencies raised 36 issues requesting the Provincial People's Committee to pay attention to and resolve. Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association Tran Duy Ngoan said that, through monitoring, each month there are about 25-27 issues that the press is interested in reflecting on related to socio-economic, defense-security issues, however, the results of handling and responding by all levels, sectors and localities are still slow.

This is also an issue that a number of journalists are interested in, suggesting that the Provincial People's Committee needs to have a clear and transparent mechanism in handling and responding to issues raised by the press, contributing to improving the quality of information and propaganda of the press.

Regarding the implementation of Decision No. 62/2013 of the Provincial People's Committee, some opinions suggested that the Provincial People's Committee should direct departments, branches and localities to rectify the arrangement of spokespersons and authorized spokespeople, providing information to the press. Because in reality, in many agencies, units and individuals assigned to provide information to the press are only for show and formality, leading to the situation of refusing to answer or not meeting the requirements requested by the press agencies.

Regarding the 2019 socio-economic development plan, some journalists are concerned about the 2019 targets set by the province. Those targets related to growth rate, budget revenue, and per capita income compared to the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress are too low.

Many journalists also suggested that the Provincial People's Committee should have drastic solutions to solve many "hot" issues that are arising, such as "suspended" projects; "land brokers"; drugs, human trafficking in border communes; job placement for candidates; handling the situation of receiving wrong benefits for war invalids and Agent Orange; handling violations in construction in real estate projects; quality of driver training and testing; taking care of Tet for households in mountainous areas affected by floods in August 2018, especially households whose houses collapsed and were swept away, currently without a place to live...

More than 500 people faked 'chemical poisoning' benefits cut

Based on the issues raised by the press, at the press conference, leaders of a number of sectors including Planning and Investment; Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Construction; Information and Communications; Transport; Home Affairs; Provincial Police... explained in detail the solutions that the sector has, is and will continue to implement to handle in the coming time.

Ms. Ho Thi Chau Loan - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said: Implementing the direction of the People's Committee of Nghe An province regarding the press's reflection that some people were receiving the wrong Agent Orange benefits, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has assigned localities to review the records of more than 16,000 people receiving chemical benefits in the province.

Up to now, through statistics, 502 cases of incorrect chemical poisoning benefits have been discovered. The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Nghe An has suspended the monthly allowances of these people and reported to the Provincial People's Committee for handling and recovery.

The records of these people show signs of forgery, such as having a serious illness due to chemical poisoning, no longer being able to work or having reduced ability to work, children of resistance fighters being deformed or disabled and unable to work...

Priority in job placement for graduating students

Regarding the issue of ethnic minority students being sent to study but unemployed, Mr. Dau Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Home Affairs informed that up to now, according to statistics in Nghe An province, only 274/884 students have been assigned jobs.

The reason is that previously, localities massively sent ethnic minority students to study more than the assigned quota without surveying the actual needs. Some students were sent to university for 6-7 years.

In addition, in order to streamline the payroll, the reception and assignment of work must be through examinations or selection, but through these examinations, the professional capacity of the selected bachelors is difficult to compete with that of regular graduates. In the face of this situation, from 2015 to now, Nghe An no longer has a policy of sending ethnic minority students to study at the selected universities, and at the same time has a policy of prioritizing employment for graduates.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Thai Thanh Quy hopes that agencies and journalists will continue to accompany, share, cooperate and collaborate with the province in the spirit of truthful and accurate information and reflection, thereby contributing to spreading positive results, models and examples into life, effectively handling existing problems and limiting their occurrence.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested agencies and press reporters to jointly contribute their efforts and intelligence to the common development of the province; and pay attention to managing the team of collaborators during their work.
