Fishing boat of Nghe An fishermen sank at sea

(Baonghean.vn) - After receiving information that the fishing boat of fishermen in Quynh Luu sank at sea, the authorities approached the scene for rescue and by 9:30 a.m. on January 7, all 7 fishermen on the boat in distress were brought safely to shore by the authorities.

Previously, at 12:00 on January 6, 2019, at coordinates 19''28'N-107''31'E, fishing boat NA 93426TS, with 7 crew members on board, captained by Mr. Tran Van Tuan, was fishing when the propeller shaft tube was dislodged from its position, water flooded into the boat.

Discovering the incident, fishermen on the boat called the Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station and tried every possible way to fix the problem but were helpless due to strong waves of level 5 - level 6.

The fishing boat gradually sank and by 13:00 on the same day, the boat and all the assets on board had completely sunk. The crew struggled with the waves until 15:00 on January 6, 2019, when they were rescued by fishing boat NA 95058TS captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Lieu, permanent resident of Hamlet 10, Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province. All 7 crew members were rescued, however, due to struggling with the big waves for 2 hours, most of the crew members were exhausted and injured.

After receiving the news of the fishing boat in distress, the Command of Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station proactively contacted and instructed the crew members to find a way to fix the problem, and at the same time reported to the Provincial Border Guard Command, assigned forces and commanded to increase communication with boats in the area to carry out rescue missions, and arranged for military medics to prepare tools and medicine to provide first aid to the victims when they were brought ashore.

At 9:30 a.m. on January 7, 2019, the injured sailors were brought ashore; officers and soldiers of Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station urgently welcomed the sailors back to their units and deployed health checks and first aid for the injured.

The crew members are now in good health. Total property damage is estimated at 700 million VND.

Previously, on January 4, the fishing boat of Mr. Dong Van Duong (born in 1986, residing in Hamlet 2, Son Hai Commune, Quynh Luu District) was fishing in the Gulf of Tonkin when its engine died, drifted at sea and sent out a distress signal. Currently, the Border Guard's rescue ship has approached the boat and is towing it back to shore.
