According to doctors, allergies (also known as hypersensitivity) are a harmful reaction of the immune system to agents from the living environment that are normally less harmful such as house dust, pollen, animal hair, mold, food, drugs, chemicals, insect venom... (also known as allergens). The cause of allergies is believed to be due to a combination of host factors (such as age, gender, race, genetics) and environmental factors.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Gia Binh, former Head of the Intensive Care Unit at Bach Mai Hospital, said that allergic reactions that cause swelling all over the body can be caused by cold weather. The cause depends on the individual's constitution. If it is severe, it must be treated with anti-allergy medication.

Patients should rest and avoid contact with the cause of the allergy. If the body continues to be affected by these factors, it can lead to secondary infection.

"Many people experience itchy rashes and swollen eyelids, which are uncomfortable but not dangerous. However, patients need to be careful when experiencing reactions such as airway constriction, suffocation, or gastrointestinal allergies: abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, as these can easily lead to death," the professor emphasized.

According to experts, allergies usually last a lifetime while symptoms can change over time. Allergies often start in young children, stabilize during puberty and recur later, sooner or later depending on the living environment and lifestyle of each individual. When having allergies, patients need to go to specialists for timely examination and treatment.
