A number of K-pop (South Korean) stars have had their university degrees revoked.

On January 14th, Naver reported that the South Korean Ministry of Education had decided to revoke the university degrees of seven students: Jang Hyun Seung, Yong Jun Hyung, Yoon Doo Joon, Lee Gi Kwang (BEAST - Highlight), Seo Eun Kwang, Yook Sung Jae (BTOB), and folk singer Choo Ga ​​Yeol.

All seven of them were idols under Cube Entertainment while attending university.

Six male idols have had their university degrees revoked.

Specifically, Dongshin University admitted that its popular students were marked present even though they were not in class, by participating in broadcast activities instead of being physically present.

However, this regulation is not included in the Ministry of Education's charter, so the academic results of these idols are not recognized. The Korean Ministry of Education also requires schools to severely discipline those who violate the rule.

Notably, among the seven male Kpop artists mentioned above is Choo Ga ​​Yeol, who currently works as a lecturer in the Applied Music department despite not having a bachelor's degree, while simultaneously studying Broadcasting.

Because his class schedule clashed with his teaching duties, the singer frequently missed classes. The 50-year-old star not only lost his degree but also his professorship.

Singer Choo Ga ​​Yeol has been stripped of both his teaching license and professorship title.

The scandal involving preferential treatment among South Korean artists at university erupted in August 2018 and caused a stir for a long time. However, the management companies of the male singers all vehemently denied the allegations.
