Sentenced to 10 years in prison for hiding nearly 500kg of fireworks in fruit stalls to sell for profit
(Baonghean.vn) - Going to the border gate to buy nearly 500kg of firecrackers, Toan mixed them with bags of goods, vegetables, tubers, and fruits to bring back to sell for profit but was arrested. As a result, Toan was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
On the morning of January 18, 2019, at the People's Committee of Vinh Tan Ward (Vinh City), Vinh City People's Court opened a mobile trial of the case of trading in prohibited goods against defendant Huynh Duy Toan (born in 1973, residing in Lien Trieu District, Da Nang City) for the crime of "Illegal trading of prohibited goods".
According to the indictment, on the morning of December 6, on the Vinh City bypass road through Block 2, Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City, Vinh City Police inspected a container truck with license plate 92C-068.51 pulling a trailer with license plate 51R-186.37, driven by Huynh Duy Toan.

Vinh City Police discovered 145 firework mortars (36 pieces/mortar) and 56 firework mortars (100 pieces/mortar) in the vehicle with a total weight of 427kg. The above firework was manufactured abroad and was hidden by Huynh Duy Toan among the bags of goods, vegetables, fruits, onions, and garlic transported on the container truck.
Toan confessed that he was a container truck driver who regularly transported goods for Duy Chau Transport and Trading Company Limited (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City).
On November 27, 2018, Toan drove a car from Dong Lanh City, Cao Thap through Tam Thanh international border gate to transport goods for the company. While waiting to load the goods onto the car, Toan bought the above firecrackers from a Chinese man for 32 million VND. Then, he mixed them with the company's goods and brought them to Vinh City and neighboring provinces for consumption.
At 4:00 a.m. on December 6, while Huynh Duy Toan was traveling on the Vinh City bypass through Block 2, Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City, he was caught red-handed and detained at the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center until now.

Defendant Huynh Duy Toan is the fifth child in a family of six siblings. His father passed away a long time ago, his wife is divorced, and he currently lives with his elderly mother and son. In his final statement, the defendant admitted that he broke the law because he wanted to earn a large sum of money.
Attending the trial, on the family side, there were only the defendant's mother and brother. The mother could only sit and look at her son and cry silently.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's behavior was dangerous to society and needed to be dealt with strictly and in accordance with the law, so they sentenced Huynh Minh Toan to 10 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal trading of prohibited goods".
