Nghi Loc: Many sources of clean food for Tet
(Baonghean.vn) - To proactively supply food sources to serve the Lunar New Year market, farmers in Nghi Loc district are currently focusing on taking care of safe food.
Nghi Loc green vegetables are clean, fresh, and favored by consumers in Vinh city. Preparing green vegetables for this year's Tet, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai's family in hamlet 13, Nghi Long commune produces 4 sao of vegetables and roots with short growing periods such as mustard greens, cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, carrots, etc.
"This year the weather is not favorable for vegetable production. This is the crop of vegetables I planted again, applying clean production techniques according to VietGAP process with the hope of selling at a higher price; almost all the vegetables brought to Vinh were sold" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai shared.

Nghi Long is a color commune of Nghi Loc district with the strength of commercial vegetable production. Currently, the whole commune has 80 hectares of year-round vegetable production, this winter crop alone has expanded the area by about 20 hectares; each year, people produce over 10,000 tons of vegetables and tubers of all kinds with a total value of billions of VND.
In order for vegetables to grow well and ensure food safety for consumers, this year Nghi Long commune has directed people to apply VietGAP production process. It is expected that during this Tet holiday, the whole commune will supply about 1,000 tons of clean vegetables to serve the market in and outside the province.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huong in Hamlet 7, Nghi Trung Commune said: In 2018, the output market was favorable, so his family renovated the barn to raise 500 breeding pigs and pigs for meat; livestock waste was used to raise silver carp, grass carp, bighead carp, common carp, tilapia... In recent days, his family has been selling pigs at 50,000 VND/kg of live pigs.
"If prices are stable as they are now, I estimate that I will earn more than 450 million VND from this pig-fish farming model. Livestock farming has some years of success and some years of failure, but since mid-2018, prices have started to increase, so my family has restored the herd. Overall, the market is looking up this year, and I hope the last batch of pigs sold at a good price will bring in more income for Tet.

Along with propaganda work, currently, Nghi Loc district's specialized departments have strengthened control and quarantine of livestock transported in and out of the area to limit the outbreak and spread of diseases, ensuring food safety for consumers.
With a wide variety of products, Nghi Loc food sources are now becoming a trusted address not only for consumers... This is a great source of income for farmers to celebrate Tet more prosperously and fully.
