Unlike the joyful atmosphere when Tet is near, these days, Mr. Le Van Chat in Kim Chi hamlet, Nghi An commune is taking care of flowers and ornamental plants with a heavy heart. He shared: My family has more than 3 sao of flowers and ornamental plants for Tet, which is the main source of income for the family; however, this year more than half of the area is dying, including valuable plants such as laurel, frangipani... estimated damage of about 40 million VND.

Not far away, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Sam’s family was in a similar situation. Most of her chrysanthemum acreage was growing poorly, not blooming yet, the lower stems were starting to rot and die; months of care were now in vain.
According to observations, most of the chrysanthemum plants in Kim Chi flower village are currently in a general state of root rot, the fresh green leaves gradually turn black and droop; some plants that grow have poor flower quality, small flowers... Other ornamental plants are also rotting and losing their leaves.

According to local people, the reason for the mass death of flowers was due to heavy rain in November 2018, which caused many flower areas to be heavily flooded, hitting the time when the flowers were growing strongly, making it very difficult to save.
"In addition to the weather factor, the drainage system of the flower village is being seriously affected due to the unfinished construction of the road to the flower village. The stagnant water in the flower gardens cannot be drained. That is the reason why Kim Chi flower village is more severely damaged than other localities." - Mr. Le Van Hung, a villager, added.
