Nghe An Newspaper delegation pays tribute to heroic martyrs at Hang Duong Cemetery

(Baonghean.vn) - On January 23, the Nghe An Newspaper delegation led by comrade Pham Thi Hong Toan - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Newspaper, offered incense and flowers at Hang Duong Cemetery - Con Dao.

Nghĩa trang Hàng Dương là nghĩa trang lớn nhất tại Côn Đảo. Đây là nơi chôn cất hàng vạn chiến sĩ cách mạng và người yêu nước Việt Nam qua nhiều thế hệ bị tù đày, kéo dài từ năm 1862 đến năm 1975, trong nhà tù Côn Đảo của chính quyền thuộc địa Pháp, và sau này là chính quyền Việt Nam Cộng hòa.
Hang Duong Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Con Dao. This is the resting place of tens of thousands of revolutionary soldiers and Vietnamese patriots through many generations who were imprisoned in Con Dao prison by the French colonial government, and later by the Republic of Vietnam government.

Before the heroic martyrs, the delegation expressed gratitude for the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who shed blood for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; and vowed to continue to make efforts in their work to always be the vanguard on the ideological front.

The delegation of Nghe An Newspaper visited the tomb of Patriot Nguyen An Ninh (1900 - 1943). He was a writer, journalist, religious researcher and revolutionary in the early 20th century. He was born in his mother's hometown in Long Thuong commune, Can Giuoc district, Cho Lon province (now Long An province). His father was Nguyen An Khuong, from Quan Tre, Hoc Mon district (now Ho Chi Minh City) - a patriotic writer, proficient in Chinese and Vietnamese.

The tomb of comrade Le Hong Phong is located in area A of Hang Duong Cemetery. Comrade Le Hong Phong's real name is Le Huy Doan, born in 1902 in Thong Lang commune (now Hung Thong commune), Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An, in a farmer's family. An excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, a typical communist soldier, he was the General Secretary of the Indochinese Communist Party from 1935 to 1936. On June 22, 1939, he was arrested by French secret police for the first time in Saigon and sentenced to 6 months in prison and deported to Nghe An. On February 6, 1940, he was arrested for the second time, sentenced to 5 years in prison and exiled to Saigon and Con Dao prisons. On September 6, 1942, he died while in prison in Con Dao on his 40th birthday.

Khu B: Gồm 695 ngôi mộ (có 17 mộ tập thể) trong đó 276 mộ có tên và 419 mộ khuyết danh. Đa số các phần mộ từ năm 1945 đến 1960. Nơi đây có mộ của nữ anh hùng Võ Thị Sáu và anh hùng Cao Văn Ngọc.

Khu C: Gồm 373 ngôi mộ (có 1 mộ tập thể) trong đó 332 mộ có tên và 41 mộ chưa xác định tên tuổi, quê quán. Đa số các phần mộ từ năm 1960 đến 1975. Nơi đây có mộ của anh hùng Lê Văn Việt.
