At the Government press conference on January 31, 2019, Minister Mai Tien Dung said that these days the Prime Minister will not receive businesses or localities coming to wish them a happy New Year.

Responding to the press, Minister and Head of the Government Office (VGO) Mai Tien Dung emphasized the implementation of the Prime Minister's words "Caring for Tet for the people, not for superiors, enterprises and localities do not have to give gifts to superiors".

According to the Minister, Tet greetings are a very good culture. Like in Western countries, people visit each other and give each other small gifts such as paper fans, dolls, etc.

However, he also pointed out the reality in Vietnam that sometimes the giving of Tet gifts has been distorted and exploited. This is an issue that the Party and State leaders are very concerned about and thoroughly direct. The Prime Minister's direction is to definitely prohibit giving Tet greetings and taking advantage of Tet greetings to do this or that.

"Even the Government Office and the Prime Minister are the same. They do not receive business guests during these days if they come to wish them a happy new year without working directly with them," said Mr. Mai Tien Dung.

However, the Minister also acknowledged that there are still places where we cannot cover everything, but the general spirit is that civil servants are aware of this. Especially when the Central Committee issued regulations on setting an example for cadres and party members, especially members of the Politburo, Secretariat, and Central Committee of the Party, it requires a very high level of self-awareness.

He also said that the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 34 dated December 28, 2018 on strengthening the management of festivals during the 2019 Lunar New Year. Accordingly, when going to pagodas or festivals, civil servants and public employees are not allowed to use public vehicles.

"In recent years, the Culture - Sports - Tourism sector has been very resolute in its rectification, grievances have been eliminated, good things have been done, and compliance by civil servants and public employees has gradually improved," he said.
