Tips for starting a car on a slope for new drivers
(Baonghean.vn) - If you are not used to driving a manual transmission car, starting the car on a slope is really a challenge for drivers and can also cause inconvenience and even traffic accidents.
1. Use the handbrake

The handbrake or emergency brake is very helpful for drivers, especially new drivers, when they need to start the car on a slope.
When needing to move back from a stationary position on a slope, the driver cuts the clutch into gear and releases the clutch, presses the accelerator as if starting normally on a flat road. At this time, the handbrake is still not lowered so the car will definitely not roll. Continue releasing the clutch, pressing the accelerator gently until you feel the car start to move, then release the handbrake (still on the accelerator) to let the car move forward.
2. Combine accelerator and clutch

Accordingly, the principle is the same as when starting the car on a flat road, but release the clutch halfway until the car vibrates as if wanting to move forward, then quickly release the brake pedal, switch to the accelerator pedal and gently press the gas pedal to let the car slowly move forward.
3. Combine the right toe and heel

This is not a method that many people use because it depends on the design of each vehicle and the length of each person's foot to be able to apply it or not. Accordingly, when the left foot is cutting the clutch, the right foot toes press the brake and simultaneously turn sideways to lightly press the gas with the right heel. When there is enough gas, you can release the clutch and brake to let the vehicle move slowly.
4. Cone

The method of using the clutch while standing on a slope is only applicable when stopping the vehicle on a slope for a short time, not when having to park or stop for a long time. Accordingly, the driver will combine the clutch release moderately and at the same time apply the throttle (if necessary) just enough to give the vehicle enough traction to not roll but also not move forward.
But this method, if applied for a long time, continuously, can cause the clutch to wear out quickly because the friction generates a lot of heat. In return, the clutch is really useful when having to move little by little on a slope, the stopping time is not long enough to pull the handbrake.
