Manchester United advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge last night, February 18th. Goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba helped Man Utd return to winning ways after a disappointing performance against PSG earlier in the week.
"We reviewed the game after the PSG defeat and the players did exactly what was asked of them in this match," said manager Solskjaer after the game against Chelsea. "Manchester United's performance was excellent as the tactics worked to their fullest potential. The midfielders were instructed to push forward, press, and penetrate the penalty area whenever possible. This strategy was successful, with two midfielders scoring the goals."
Solskjaer secured his 11th win in 13 games in charge of Manchester United across all competitions. In the FA Cup quarter-finals, Man Utd will face surprise package Wolverhampton, a newly promoted team currently sitting seventh in the Premier League. "In the second half, the Man Utd defense also played excellently. Chelsea are a quality team with a distinctive style of play, but Juan Mata prevented Jorginho from playing as usual. This was crucial to our defensive plan. This victory means a great deal," he added.
This also serves as a good warm-up before Solskjaer's team takes on Liverpool this weekend.
