Cambodia reports prominently on the visit of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong

Phnom Penh Post, Khmer Times, and Thmey Thmey simultaneously published solemn articles about the State visit of General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong to Cambodia.

According to a VNA reporter in Phnom Penh, major Cambodian newspapers including Phnom Penh Post, Khmer Times, and Thmey Thmey simultaneously published solemn articles about the State visit of General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong to Cambodia on February 25 and 26.

The Phnom Penh Post newspaper quoted a statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation saying that General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong will lead a high-ranking delegation on a state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

During the two-day visit, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong will hold talks with King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk before meeting with King Tep Vong and King Bour Kry.

The Vietnamese leader will also meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin and President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Say Chhum during the signing ceremony of several documents.

The newspaper also quoted Cambodian Government spokesman Phay Siphan as saying that this State visit will benefit the Vietnam-Cambodia cooperative relationship, especially maintaining stability on the two countries' border with the early implementation of land border demarcation.

According to him, this is a meaningful achievement for the two countries.

“This is a positive development, we have maintained cooperation between the two countries and peace along the border,” said a Cambodian government spokesman.

Besides, Mr. Phay Siphan also emphasized that the Cambodian people cannot forget that Vietnamese volunteer soldiers fought side by side with the National Liberation Front of leaders Hun Sen and Heng Samrin to liberate the country from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime.

Also related to the visit, Director of the Cambodian Institute of International Relations Kin Phea affirmed that Cambodia and Vietnam have a good traditional relationship that has been continuously strengthened in the fields of politics, security and trade.

One of the concrete manifestations of this relationship is the construction of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia to mark history.

According to him, this is an expression of the country and people of Cambodia's infinite gratitude to Vietnam, the two countries have always supported each other in times of difficulty as well as in times of peace.

Mr. Kin Phea emphasized: "Cambodia needs to acknowledge that the presence of Vietnamese volunteer troops in Cambodia during a period helped to overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime and is a demonstration of mutual support."

The Khmer Times also highlighted the visit to Cambodia in July 2017 by General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong when he and Prime Minister Hun Sen witnessed the signing of five important documents to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of natural disaster mitigation, power system construction and cooperation between the two countries' post and telecommunications ministries.
