The price of purchasing solar power in the northern provinces is expected to be 2,486 VND/kWh, the highest in the country.
According to the draft of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the purchase price of solar power in the northern provinces will be the highest in the country, at 2,486 VND/kWh for rooftop solar power projects.

According to the new draft of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the price of buying and selling solar power will be calculated according to the radiation zones and different types of each power project. The Ministry of Industry and Trade also divides the country into 4 radiation zones, including: Zone I (28 provinces and cities, mainly the northern mountainous provinces, the Red River Delta and the North Central Coast up to Quang Binh), Zone II (including 6 provinces and cities from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai and Dien Bien province), Zone III (23 provinces and cities) and Zone IV (6 provinces, including: Phu Yen, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan).

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed 4 types of solar power production to calculate electricity purchase and sale prices, including: Floating solar power projects, Ground-mounted solar power projects, Solar power projects integrated with storage systems, and Rooftop solar power projects.
The highest solar power purchase price is 2,486 VND/kWh (equivalent to 10.87 US Cent/kWh), applied to rooftop solar power projects for power projects in Region 1, which are the northern and North Central provinces.
Region 4 has the cheapest electricity purchase price for ground-mounted solar power projects, at 1,525 VND/kWh (equivalent to 6.67 US Cents/kWh).

According to the draft of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the region with the highest electricity price in the country is region I, in all types of projects. This highest price applies to the provinces in the northern mountainous region, the Red River Delta and some provinces in the North Central region.
The purchase price of rooftop solar power in the provinces of Region I is the highest in the country at 2,486 VND/kWh, while this price in Region 4 (including provinces with great potential for solar power) is only 1,803 VND/kWh.
The draft was finalized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, submitted to the Prime Minister for signature and applied after June 2019.
