Knowing the information about cholera, consumers do not boycott pork
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, after the Department of Animal Health announced the appearance of African swine fever in some provinces of Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong, many housewives were worried and concerned. However, thanks to propaganda and understanding that African swine fever does not spread to humans, the pork market has been quite stable.

On February 27, at traditional markets in Vinh City, pork was still sold stably as before the outbreak. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, who sells pork and various types of ham, sausage, and dried pork floss at Hung Dung Market (Vinh City) said: “In the first few days when information about the epidemic was first released, many housewives were hesitant to buy pork to prepare food. Therefore, this item was less popular than in the previous days. In recent days, purchasing power has stabilized again as consumers have a clear understanding of the epidemic and know that swine fever does not spread to humans.”
However, besides some people who understand and have a good grasp of information about swine fever, there are also many housewives who are still vigilant and avoid buying pork.
Ms. Phan Kim Lien in Sa Nam block, Nam Dan town said: “At the market, the price of meat has not decreased, many people still buy pork to prepare dishes for daily meals. Although I have read information about cholera in the press and listened to propaganda through the block radio system, I am still a bit apprehensive from my personal point of view. During this time, I choose to buy shrimp, fish, beef, and chicken instead of pork in my family's daily meals.”

Meanwhile, some housewives, instead of buying pork at traditional markets, choose to buy pork at clean food stores or supermarkets. Ms. Tran Thi Quyen, a bank employee in Vinh city, said: “Avian cholera has appeared in Thanh Hoa, adjacent to our province, so I am a bit worried. I do not dare to buy pork at the market because I am worried about floating meat, with unknown origin, so I choose to buy quarantined meat at clean food stores or supermarkets.”
According to records at traditional markets in the province, pork prices remain stable, purchasing power has decreased slightly. Consumers are concerned and worried about swine fever, but thanks to propaganda and clear information, there is no panic or boycott of pork.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh - Director of the Provincial Center for Preventive Medicine said: Unlike swine flu, African swine fever does not pose any direct threat to human health. Swine fever does not spread to humans because it is only a bacterial gastrointestinal infection. Therefore, housewives should not be too afraid to boycott pork.

At the same time, consumers are advised to make smart choices when buying pork: Buy meat at trusted addresses such as supermarkets, clean food stores, stalls that have been quarantined by veterinary agencies, do not buy cheap meat, meat sold on the street with unknown origins. At the same time, you must know how to process it hygienically.
However, Mr. Dinh also warned that swine fever does not cause disease in humans but is transmitted to flies, mosquitoes, rats, cats, chickens, and ducks. Pigs with cholera can contract other dangerous diseases such as blue ear, flu, typhoid, etc. These diseases are dangerous to humans because they disrupt the digestive system, especially when people eat raw blood pudding or undercooked meat from sick pigs.
