(Baonghean) - In Hung Yen Bac commune (Hung Nguyen), the movement of donating land and expanding roads is taking place vigorously in most hamlets with the goal of building a spacious road system, serving the lives of the people and soon bringing the commune to the new rural finish line. Leading this movement are veterans from the religious areas.

Unlike before, the inner-village roads in Hamlet 6A, Hung Yen Bac Commune (Hung Nguyen) have now been expanded, making travel more convenient and easier, and the village landscape more open and beautiful. Villagers affirmed that these roads were expanded thanks to the great contribution of parishioner Nguyen Dinh Huan - Hamlet Chief, who is also the Head of the War Veterans Association of the hamlet. Mr. Huan was an active person in mobilizing people to donate land to open roads, and his family took the lead in the land donation movement.

“The road in front of the house is still narrow, not meeting the new rural standards, my family discussed and decided to move the fence inside to widen the road. The total area my family donated is about 100 m2, lost a little land but had a more convenient road".

Seeing Mr. Huan donate land to open the road, the neighboring households also voluntarily moved their fences into their gardens. A few days later, the entire road was widened and straightened.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huan added that not only the road in front of his house but also most of the fishbone roads in the hamlet have been widened. This is thanks to the consensus and volunteerism of the people in the hamlet. Hamlet 6A has 90% of Catholics, besides opening rural roads, the people actively contribute to building cultural houses and converting land, determined not to lose to other hamlets. Mr. Huan shared: “As a Catholic who used to join the army, I always encourage the people following the religion to always live a “good life, beautiful religion”, harmoniously fulfilling the duties of a sheep to God and a citizen of society. Many people have listened to my advice and actively responded to the movement to build new rural areas”.

At hamlet 6B, we met Mr. Pham Trong Nhung - Vice President of the Veterans Association, who is also a parishioner who actively donates land to build new rural areas. Implementing the policy of land conversion, land consolidation, and plot exchange, the working group of the Commune People's Committee initially encountered certain difficulties because most households did not want to give up their land. Aware of his role as a veteran, Mr. Nhung persuaded his wife and children to donate 130 m2rice fields to build internal roads. At the same time, mobilize people in the village to follow suit. As a result, 15 households agreed to donate rice fields with a total of nearly 1,500 m2to make internal roads, more convenient for production and harvesting.

“My wife and I have 6 children, 2 girls and 4 boys. At first, no one agreed to donate their farmland because the family was lacking land for production and the children had to go far away to work to earn more income. I carefully analyzed the pros and cons, so in the end everyone agreed. What’s even happier is that other families followed suit.”

In addition, the fishbone road behind the house is still narrow, making it difficult for vehicles to travel, especially during harvest season. Taking advantage of the time when the neighborhood and commune mobilized to open the road, Mr. Pham Trong Nhung's family voluntarily moved the fence into the garden, giving up nearly 40 meters.2garden land to open the road. Thanks to that, the households behind also agreed to donate land, the road has become wider and is waiting for the day to pour concrete to make traveling more convenient and cleaner. Like Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huan, Mr. Nhung affirmed that voluntarily donating land is a necessary thing for a war veteran, the important thing is to set an example for parishioners to support the movement to build new rural areas.

Returning to Hung Yen Bac, we also heard the story of the family of parishioner Pham Trong Dao, who is the Head of the Veterans Association and Head of the Front Work Committee of Hamlet 5. Mr. Dao's family had just invested in building a spacious gate at a cost of more than 50 million VND. Not long after, the commune implemented a policy of expanding rural roads, the road in front of Mr. Dao's house was still narrow so it was included in the list of roads that needed to be expanded. Knowing this information, without needing organizations to come to propagate and mobilize, Mr. Dao voluntarily demolished the gate and moved the fence inside.

It is known that this is a favorable location for business and trade, but his family agreed to donate 20 m2is considered “golden land” for road expansion. As Head of the Front Work Committee, Mr. Pham Trong Dao also mobilized the villagers to voluntarily remove fences and give up land to expand the road.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hong - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Hung Yen Bac commune said: "The whole commune has 11 hamlets, the proportion of Catholics accounts for 64%, of which 3 hamlets are all Catholic, 7 hamlets have many Catholic households and 1 hamlet has few Catholic households. Cadres and people in the commune are making efforts to build a new countryside to reach the finish line soon, currently focusing on opening roads and converting land, with initial good results. This is thanks to the important contribution of Catholic war veterans in donating land and mobilizing people to implement it."
