(Baonghean.vn) - That is the information given at the online conference on African swine fever prevention chaired by the Prime Minister on the morning of March 4.

African swine fever (ASF) is a dangerous disease caused by a virus, and there is no vaccine yet, so when the disease occurs, the damage is extremely serious.

According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently 20 countries have reported ASF, China alone has 110 outbreaks in 28 provinces and this country has destroyed 1 million pigs. In the Russian Federation, there have also been 1,000 outbreaks in 46 regions of this country, causing a total of more than 800,000 pigs to die.

In Vietnam, there are currently 7 provinces and 14 districts with ASF, namely Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Ha Nam, Hai Duong. Up to now, there has been no outbreak over 30 days according to Regulation No. 4527/QD-BNN-TY dated November 15, 2018 of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on the action plan for emergency response to ASF.

According to disease prevention and control information, ASF only causes disease in wild boars and domestic pigs, does not cause disease in other animals, and does not spread to humans; the disease spreads quickly and can kill 100% of pigs.

The Prime Minister has issued Official Dispatch No. 1194/CD-TTg on focusing on implementing measures to prevent ASF from entering Vietnam, and Directive on synchronous implementation of urgent solutions to control ASF. Localities must immediately report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development when an epidemic occurs, immediately stop the transportation and immediately handle infected pigs and products.

The People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities must directly direct the concentration of local resources to organize the complete handling of epidemic outbreaks, not allowing new outbreaks to arise. Establish Steering Committees for animal disease prevention and control, working groups at all levels and assign specific responsibilities to each member to organize disease prevention and control.

Organize close supervision at border gates, trails, and border openings for people and means of transport from countries with ASF entering Vietnam, and propagate so that people do not participate in trading, transporting, and slaughtering pigs and pig products across the border...

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, livestock farmers must follow 5 no's in preventing swine fever: No hiding the epidemic, no trading or transporting sick or dead pigs, no slaughtering or consuming sick or dead pigs, no dumping of dead pigs into the environment, and no using leftover food for pigs.

In Nghe An, there is currently no African swine fever. The Provincial People's Committee has issued telegrams, directives, and decisions on establishing quarantine checkpoints and interdisciplinary mobile working groups to control the transportation of animals and animal products to prevent ASF.
