The notice to Congress said that the sanctions imposed by Barack Obama will continue to operate after March 6 for one year.

According to the president, Russia's actions threaten the security and stability of Ukraine. In addition, the Russian government's military decisions are a threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.

Relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine and Crimea, which became Russian territory after a referendum. Western countries accuse Russia of interfering in Ukraine's internal affairs and impose sanctions.

Moscow has responded by repeatedly denying all accusations and stating that talking to the country in the language of sanctions is counterproductive. Recently, in the West, there has been a growing number of opinions about the need to lift sanctions against Russia.
