"Türkiye's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system will have serious consequences for the defense relationship with the United States. We are helping Türkiye find better solutions for its defense needs, and continue to warn about the consequences of purchasing the S-400," Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon said on March 4.RTreport
The US has consistently opposed Türkiye's S-400 deal, considering the presence of Russian military personnel and this air defense system in the capital Ankara as the biggest threat to the F-35 fighter jets deployed there. A report submitted by the Pentagon to the US Congress in late November 2018 stated that Türkiye's S-400 deal could permanently strip the country of its right to buy the US's F-35 stealth fighter jets. This deal could also affect the purchase of other US weapons such as CH-47F helicopters, UH-60 Black Hawks and F-16 fighters.

A day earlier, South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon reported to President Moon Jae-in about the proposal, saying that the two projects would benefit both sides and facilitate the denuclearization dialogue process between the parties, creating peace on the peninsula. However, all cooperation with North Korea would comply with UN sanctions. This would be good news for the Korean Peninsula if the US side accepts South Korea's proposal.
