Purple sugarcane exported to Japan: "Choosing gold" in the sand

The news that some units of Hoa Binh province exported purple sugarcane to Japan has opened up a ray of hope for sugarcane growers in Muong land. In reality, the consumption of thousands of hectares of purple sugarcane in Hoa Binh province is still a difficult problem.

The shipment of purple sugarcane from Hoa Binh to the Japanese market was under a fresh fruit purchase contract established between the seller, Linh Dung Organic Farm (January 2019), and the buyer, AMEII Vietnam Joint Stock Company. Accordingly, the quantity of purple sugarcane exported to Japan for the first time was 712kg, worth nearly 8.5 million VND.

Purple sugarcane is packed in PE bags (vacuum) weighing 1 kg/bag, packed in 8 kg/carton, ensuring quality according to export standards, sugarcane keeps purple skin, cleaned, chopped, 100% of the ends removed.

Exporting purple sugarcane to Japan is good news for sugarcane growers in Hoa Binh.

Mr. Nguyen Dong Yen, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hoa Binh province, said: After sending samples of purple sugarcane in Hoa Binh to ANEIL Company, checking the quality, we will buy and collect sugarcane from people in Kim Boi district and Tan Lac district for export.

Currently, the consumption of purple sugarcane in Muong land is facing many difficulties. Tan Lac, Kim Boi, Lac Son, Lac Thuy districts - the main sugarcane growing areas of Hoa Binh province.

The standards for exporting purple sugarcane to Japan are very strict and demanding, requiring that the sugarcane is not cracked, discolored, has no remaining sugarcane eyes or soil. Therefore, before exporting, it must be washed, dried, cut into pieces, 100% of the ends removed, then weighed 1kg/bag, vacuumed, and stored at a temperature of 5-10 degrees Celsius.

"Recently, we exported purple sugarcane to Japan in 3 batches: batch 1 was 7.2 tons, batch 2 was 1 ton, and batch 3 was 1.5 tons. In the coming time, we will advise our superiors on policies and solutions to support farmers in growing good quality purple sugarcane, so that they can export to Japan in larger quantities," Mr. Yen added.

According to the planning of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province, the area of ​​purple sugarcane production in the province by 2020 is 9,500 hectares, by 2030 is 10,000 hectares, sugarcane output is about 225,000 tons. By 2025, 100% of the varieties will be used by tissue culture method.
