At a press conference for military attaches of foreign countries accredited to Russia, Mr. Shamanov warned about the possibility of terminating the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the United States on Measures for the Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START-3).
"Terminating START-3 could have catastrophic global consequences," he stressed.
The Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee noted the uncertainty on the part of the United States, arguing that Washington blatantly ignores the norms of international law.
In the fall of 2018, the US Congress passed a bill banning the extension of START-3.
Earlier, Mr. Shamanov commented on Washington's withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.(INF), he declared that Russia is not a country to which anyone can issue ultimatums./.
