On March 15, a source in the Federation Council (upper house) of Russia said that the visit to the United States by the council delegation scheduled for 2018 will no longer be carried out, because current conditions are "inappropriate."
“There will be 100% no visit. Under current conditions, the visit cannot take place while the US is drafting and submitting to Congress a bill on new sanctions against Russia, including measures related to Russia's national debt,” the source confirmed.
The visit, led by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Andrey Klimov, was scheduled for November 2018, then postponed to early 2019. According to the plan, the Federation Council deputies would visit and meet with members of both houses of the US Congress. This is in response to a series of visits to Russia by members of the House of Representatives and Senators.USA in July and August 2018.
During those visits, many US congressmen assured that inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries would be resumed and regular visits would be organized.
