Crimean authorities assess damage from Ukrainian rule

Crimea's economic losses as part of Ukraine amount to hundreds of billions of rubles, First Deputy Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Yefim Fiks told Sputnik.

“If we start calculating, then for the leaders of Ukraine, this will be a very sad statistic. We are talking not about billions, but probably hundreds of billions, and maybe at least trillions of rubles. For example, if we talk about the North Crimean canal system destroyed by the actions of the Kiev authorities, or about industrial enterprises that were deliberately bankrupted, looted, there are countless such examples,” he said.

This is how he commented on the words of the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, who the day before issued a directive on the need to calculate the economic damage during the time Crimea belonged to Ukraine.

According to Mr. Fiks, this is a very timely, important, well-considered and necessary directive.

“When all the economic losses of the peninsula’s belonging to Ukraine are made public, the Ukrainian and Western leaders, who today demand and want something from Crimea, will finally cool down their passion and desire to make money from the Crimean people,” he said.
