(Baonghean.vn) - Although African swine fever has not yet appeared, there have been cases of sick and dead pigs in Dien Chau district and Hoang Mai town. Currently, these localities are strengthening the monitoring of the remaining pigs to promptly handle any unusual signs.

As a district adjacent to Quynh Luu, an epidemic has occurred, the government and peopleDien Chau districtis stepping up epidemic prevention with the spirit of not letting the disease spread to the area. On March 7, at Mr. Tran Hong Thach's house (Hamlet 10, Dien Thanh Commune), a sick pig appeared with symptoms of swollen head, swollen eyes, not eating for many days, and died after a short time. The locality immediately reported to the veterinary agency to take samples for testing. The results were negative for African swine fever.

Authorities have destroyed the pigs according to procedure and assigned people to monitor the remaining pigs. Up to now, there have been no unusual signs. Monitoring and surveillance of pigs is still being carried out daily.

After 1 week, on March 14, at the household of Mr. Ho Sy Thanh in Hamlet 5, Dien Truong Commune (Dien Chau), there was also a situation of dead pigs. Veterinarians immediately isolated the area and took samples for testing, the results were negative for African swine fever. However, because Dien Truong is an area adjacent to Quynh Luu District, strict control of transportation, slaughter, and monitoring of sick pigs is extremely important.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Bon - Head of Dien Chau Veterinary Station said: Up to now, Dien Chau has not recorded any cases of swine fever infection but there have been pig deaths in 2 communes, therefore, we have directed the grassroots veterinary staff and households to closely monitor the remaining pigs in the herd. If there are any unusual signs, they must be reported immediately to the authorities for timely handling.

InHoang Mai Town- The province's key areas have many major roads running through them, especially National Highway 1A, which is frequently used by livestock transport vehicles. Furthermore, Thanh Hoa province and Quynh Luu district, which borders the town, have been hit by an epidemic, so the town is putting epidemic prevention work first.

However, at 4:00 p.m. on March 13, at Mr. Le Cong Mang's house (Hamlet 6, Quynh Loc Commune), a litter of 9 sick pigs appeared. After a period of monitoring, 1 pig died and 8 pigs got sick. The town isolated the area and informed the Veterinary Department to take samples for testing and destroy the dead pigs according to the procedure. The test results were negative for African swine fever.

Mr. Vu Tuan Dung - Vice Chairman of Hoang Mai Town People's Committee said: The town's consistent viewpoint is to prioritize the prevention of African swine fever at this time. The town has directed 10 wards and communes to tighten management of trading, transporting and slaughtering pigs in the area, especially in 3 localities bordering Quynh Luu district: Quynh Lien commune, Quynh Xuan ward, Quynh Trang commune. Currently, the town has directed these localities to set up quarantine checkpoints to control pigs entering and leaving.

"Regarding the point where sick pigs died in Hamlet 6, Quynh Loc Commune, the town has assigned veterinary staff and local authorities to destroy them according to the correct procedure. The remaining sick pigs in the herd are being closely monitored and treated. Up to now, 8 pigs have shown signs of recovery; monitoring of this herd is still ongoing and the locality must immediately report if there are any unusual signs," Mr. Dung added.
