A military conflict between Russia and Ukraine is possible only if Kiev itself lets this situation arise, former head of the Security Service of Ukraine and presidential candidate Igor Smeshko told NewsOne TV channel.

"If we ourselves do not allow it, the possibility of a military campaign is not great," he said.
According to the politician, military actions are possible only in a certain political situation in Ukraine, which creates the need for a peacekeeping operation in the country.
Mr. Smeshko also added that Kiev should not drag Russia into its internal conflict, as it is "the second nuclear state in the world" and "has the largest ground force in Europe with 150,000 well-trained and equipped troops."
