The State Bank requires credit institutions to consider reducing loan interest rates for customers affected by African swine fever.

On March 21, the State Bank of Vietnam issued Document No. 1901/NHNN-TD requesting credit institutions and State Bank branches in provinces and cities to support customers affected by the impact of African swine fever.

The document stated that recently, African swine fever has occurred in 20 provinces and cities across the country, affecting production, business and the lives of pig farmers.

Therefore, the State Bank requires credit institutions to direct branches and transaction offices to proactively review and summarize the losses of customers who are borrowing capital due to African swine fever to promptly apply support measures and remove difficulties for customers such as: Restructuring debt repayment terms, considering loan interest exemptions and reductions, continuing to provide new loans to restore production after the epidemic ends, and handling debts for customers who have suffered losses in loans according to regulations of the Government and the State Bank.

At the same time, direct branches of credit institutions in epidemic areas to proactively coordinate, guide and support people in the process of handling requests to remove difficulties in borrowing capital according to regulations.

The State Bank branches in provinces and cities closely monitor the epidemic developments in the area, direct credit institutions to promptly compile statistics on outstanding loans for pig farming and outstanding loans damaged by African swine fever to proactively take measures to handle and remove difficulties for pig farmers.

In addition, coordinate with departments, branches and sectors to promptly advise the People's Committees of provinces and cities on solutions to handle risks and support to remove difficulties for pig farmers according to Decree No. 55/2015/ND-CP and Decree No. 116/2018/ND-CP of the Government. Report to the People's Committees of provinces and cities on difficulties and obstacles within their authority to receive support during the implementation process.
