(Baonghean.vn) - Russian President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 25 that Russia has long been waiting for the US to take steps to restore bilateral relations. The "ball" was passed to the US by Russia at the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Helsinki (Finland) in July 2018.

Mr. Peskov made the above statement after on March 24, the US Department of Justice announced the results of the investigation by US special prosecutor Robert Mueller into allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. The report affirmed that there was no collusion between Moscow and President Trump's campaign team.

Mr. Peskov emphasized that Russia has never initiated damage to relations between the two countries through adventurous and unforeseen actions, and has never sought to destroy trade and economic relations by imposing illegal restrictions. Russia has never initiated the sabotage of strategic treaties that are very important for global security and stability, such as the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). Russia has never occupied US diplomatic missions on Russian territory.

On the contrary, according to Mr. Peskov, President Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia wants to have good relations with the United States.

The US has repeatedly imposed sanctions on Russia for alleged election interference, although the investigation has not yet been completed.
