(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of his job as a wood saw in his wood workshop, Luu Van Thang manufactured and sold flintlock guns to interested partners in order to make a profit. However, his illegal act was caught red-handed by the Thanh Chuong District Police.

At the end of 2018, through reconnaissance and surveillance work, Thanh Chuong District Police detectives discovered in Thanh Son commune a group of people producing flintlock guns, selling them to people, and making illegal profits.

Based on collected documents and evidence, the detectives determined that the ringleader was Luu Van Thang (born in 1967), residing in Hamlet 8, Thanh Huong Commune, Thanh Chuong District.

It is known that many years ago, Luu Van Thang rented land and opened a sawmill in Kim Chuong village, Thanh Son commune, Thanh Chuong district. He used this sawmill to cover up his act of manufacturing flintlock guns.

To avoid detection by the authorities, Luu Van Thang frequently changed the location, time, and form of transactions with his partners. At the same time, the locations he chose to trade his "goods" were often deep in the forest, with difficult roads. In particular, he only conducted transactions with partners whose identities he had personally verified beforehand.

In addition, because the "goods" that Luu Van Thang traded with his partner were homemade guns, it is not impossible that the subject would use hot weapons to attack the authorities when discovered. Therefore, in addition to assigning additional forces to monitor the area, Thanh Chuong District Police also proactively planned and outlined the most scientific and safest plan to arrest the subject when the opportunity arose and ensure absolute safety for the forces participating in solving the case.

The Task Force received information that on March 22, Luu Van Thang would conduct a transaction with a partner. Realizing that the opportunity to solve the case had come, the leaders of Thanh Chuong District Police mobilized reconnaissance teams to set up ambushes and blockades at suspicious locations to catch the subject in the act of committing the crime.

At around 11:30 a.m. on March 22, at his sawmill in Kim Chuong village, Thanh Son commune, Luu Van Thang was trading military weapons with a strange young man. Thanh Chuong district police raided and caught Luu Van Thang red-handed, confiscating 1 flintlock gun, 1 AK47 military gun and 15 bullets; the strange young man took advantage of the chaos to escape.

At the police station, the suspect Luu Van Thang initially confessed to his crime. Regarding the 15 bullets, Luu Van Thang said he picked them up in 1989 while working on the farm in Khe Cay area of Thanh Huong commune, Thanh Chuong district. He then brought them back and hid them on his farm. When he found a buyer who offered a reasonable price, he brought them out to sell but was discovered and caught red-handed by the police.

Currently, the Thanh Chuong District Police Investigation Agency is completing procedures to handle the subject according to the provisions of law.
