Bus crashes into funeral procession: Death toll rises to 7

The accident happened early in the morning in Yen Lac district (Vinh Phuc) when a passenger bus crashed into a funeral procession. At least 7 people died and many were injured.

Early on the morning of March 27, a group of people and a hearse were traveling on a road in Trung Nguyen commune, Yen Lac district (Vinh Phuc) when they were suddenly hit by a passenger bus.

At least 7 people died (4 died on the spot, 3 died at the hospital), many other injured victims are being treated at the hospital.

At the scene, the passenger bus was damaged in the front, the hearse was deformed. Many people died on the spot, the bodies were covered with blankets waiting for the police to examine the scene.

Mr. Hoang Van Hoan - Chief of Office of Traffic Safety Committee of Vinh Phuc province confirmed the incident that killed 7 people and injured 3 people. The accident happened at 5am, the 45-seat passenger bus with license plate 27B - 003.43 was traveling on Provincial Road 304 in the direction of Dien Bien - Vinh Phuc. When reaching the intersection of Dong Dau school (Trung Nguyen village, Trung Nguyen, Yen Lac district), the bus crashed into the group of people and the hearse.

"We are currently visiting the injured at Vinh Phuc General Hospital," said Mr. Hoan, adding that the cause of the accident is being investigated and clarified by authorities.

After receiving information about the incident, Mr. Truong Hoa Binh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee and Minister of Transport sent his condolences to the family of the unfortunate victim and encouraged the injured victims of the traffic accident.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh requested the leaders of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee to direct the functional agencies of the province, Vinh Lac District People's Committee, and Trung Nguyen Commune:

1. Give top priority to treating injured victims to minimize human losses in the incident; visit and support victims and their families to quickly overcome the consequences of the incident.

2. Urgently investigate and verify the cause of the traffic accident, especially verify the responsibility of the driver and vehicle owner who caused the accident, and check for drugs and stimulants in the driver's blood.

3. Urgently organize health check-ups for all drivers in the transport business in the province, remove from the team drivers who test positive for drugs.

4. Continue to review and evaluate in coordination with TCDBVN to identify and handle all black spots and potential traffic accident spots on national highways and local roads in the province.

Request the leaders of the National Traffic Safety Committee to urgently go to the scene to visit and encourage the victims and their families and coordinate with the leaders of Vinh Phuc province to direct the handling of the consequences of the incident.
