The Norwegian coach was signed on a three-year contract with the Old Trafford team after more than four months working in an interim capacity.

Solskjaer played for Man Utd as a player, scoring 126 goals in 366 games between 1996 and 2007. "From the first day I arrived, this special club has felt like home to me. It has been an honour to be a Man Utd player and to start my managerial career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I would like to thank the coaches, players and dressing room staff," Solskjaer said. "This is the job I have always dreamed of and I am extremely excited to be leading the club long-term. I hope to continue to deliver the success our fantastic fans deserve."

Solskjaer has won eight straight games since being brought in by Man Utd to "put out the fire". In 19 games so far, he and his students have won 14, drawn 2 and won more points than any other team in the Premier League in the same period. Man Utd were sixth, 11 points off the top 4 before Solskjaer was appointed. Now, they are just two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

In the Champions League, Solskjaer helped Man Utd beat PSG to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2014, despite losing 0-2 in the first leg at home. In the next round, they will meet Barca. "Since being appointed as interim coach, the results Ole has brought speak for themselves. Not only the performances on the field and the results, Ole has also added a lot of experience to the team as a coach and a player. He has a desire to give opportunities to young players and understands the club's culture. Those things show that Ole is the right person for this job," said Man Utd vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
