The author of the initiative, Roman Maximchuk, calls for introducing "punitive measures in the field of spelling" against Moscow. In particular, he proposes writing the word "Rossia" in lowercase letters.

“It is proposed to include this reform in media, books, documents and the like,” the petition says.

The initiative was posted on the portal on March 26 but currently has only 22 supporters.

This is not the first time Mr Poroshenko has been approached with outlandish proposals. For example, Ukrainians have asked the president to dig a canal between the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, cutting off the Crimean peninsula from the mainland.

Some other citizens support changing the name of Russia to "Katsapiya" and charging for flights of Russian satellites over the country's territory.

In addition, the website also featured a petition to legalize bribery and prostitution.
