Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said in late November 2018, when visiting a border checkpoint in Kharkiv province, that Ukraine had built nearly half of the wall on its 2,300 km long border with Russia.

The project has been extended through 2021. The budget for 2019 is about $14.4 million. But the head of the Border Patrol hopes to receive more money to build the border wall.

Construction of the wall continues in Kharkiv, and will continue in Sumy and Luhansk. The wall includes fortifications with barbed wire fences, 2-meter-deep anti-tank trenches, 17-meter-high watchtowers, 40 border checkpoints, as well as equipment with motion sensors, border security closed-circuit television (CCTV) and alarm systems.
