(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever has just appeared in Do Luong district 2 days ago. Currently, many pigs in the district are sick, specialized agencies are taking samples for testing and actively monitoring.

The location of the African swine fever outbreak in Do Luong district was at the pig farm of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa in Long Minh hamlet, Minh Son commune on April 4.

Immediately after testing positive for African swine fever, local authorities and functional agencies took anti-epidemic measures: setting up quarantine checkpoints, spraying disinfectants, and destroying pigs...

However, according to our records in the early afternoon of April 5, the epidemic prevention work in the epidemic area has not been implemented by the local authorities of Minh Son commune in accordance with regulations: 2 quarantine checkpoints on Highway 7B are sketchy, perfunctory, not technically correct, the checkpoint force is confused; the equipment for spraying chemicals and destroying pigs does not meet the requirements...

There are currently 400 pigs in the hamlet. Following instructions from superiors, the hamlet will strictly control the existing pig herd, prohibiting people from slaughtering and importing pigs. At the same time, people are advised not to enter or leave the epidemic area.

Only with the direct guidance of the leaders of Do Luong district, all epidemic prevention solutions were deployed synchronously and correctly. The means and tools used in the epidemic prevention process were guaranteed.

Even the pig culling work was slow, it was not until 5 p.m. that the local authorities and specialized agencies started to cull the infected pigs. The commune mobilized excavators to dig deep holes to cull them according to regulations.

Local people are very worried about the pigs infected with African swine fever left in the village for a long time.

Immediately after the outbreak of African swine fever in Minh Son commune, on the morning of April 5, the People's Committee of Do Luong district held an urgent meeting with Minh Son commune and 5 neighboring communes. Accordingly, the communes were directed to establish 8 quarantine checkpoints; Minh Son commune alone established 2 checkpoints to control the transportation of pigs in and out of the epidemic area. In addition, the People's Committee of Do Luong district directed specialized agencies to strengthen the management of livestock farming and slaughtering in the entire district; at the same time, deploy vaccination for the spring crop of 2019. Do Luong is determined not to let African swine fever spread widely.

Do Luong district currently has nearly 80,000 pigs, including 8 farms, 100 households; in the district there are 7 centralized slaughterhouses and a number of small slaughterhouses. Immediately after the African swine fever outbreak in the district, the district Veterinary Station increased its efforts to the grassroots level to coordinate with the veterinary department of the communes to strictly inspect the slaughter of pigs, especially the origin of pigs brought to the slaughterhouse. At the same time, the slaughter of pigs in Minh Son commune, where the epidemic is occurring, is prohibited.

Worryingly, currently in Do Luong area there are still many households with sick pigs.

Mr. Vo Dinh Khoa - Head of the District Veterinary Station said: Late afternoon on April 5, the veterinary agency took samples for testing at 2 households with sick pigs in Xuan Son and Minh Son communes.

On the morning of April 6, the Veterinary Department continued to take samples of sick pigs at Battalion 17, stationed in Nhan Son commune.

Currently, communes are stepping up propaganda work to help people understand African swine fever, and asking households to report to local authorities when their pigs are sick.
