More than 32 billion VND to support livelihoods for people with disabilities

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, the whole province has 221,000 people with disabilities and orphans; most families of people with disabilities and orphans are poor or near-poor, and their lives are still difficult.

On the afternoon of April 9, comrade Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired a working session with the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans on the implementation of the Association's tasks in 2018, the first quarter of 2019 and the direction of tasks for the coming time.

In carrying out its functions, over the past 8 years, the Provincial Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans has carried out many practical activities to mobilize funds and help the disabled and orphans. Thereby, 105 billion VND has been mobilized, promptly assisting more than 291,000 people in forms such as giving bicycles and wheelchairs, vocational training, job creation, supporting the construction of houses, and making roads accessible to wheelchairs.

In particular, through the Livelihood Support Program, the Association has successfully implemented many programs such as the 50-50 Program to support buffalo and cow breeding for 1,325 families, supporting production and livestock breeding. The total capital for livelihood support is more than 32 billion VND.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans in recent years. Thereby, creating motivation to arouse the will and determination of people with disabilities and orphans to rise up, and to carry out social security work well.

In the coming time, for the Association to operate effectively, he suggested that the Association should continue to adhere to its principles, goals, and regulations, focusing on providing assistance in health care, employment, and improving the material and spiritual lives of people with disabilities and orphans. In addition, he suggested that relevant departments and branches coordinate to support preferential loans and create jobs for the beneficiaries.

He also agreed with the policy of implementing activities to celebrate the Vietnamese Day for People with Disabilities, organizing a Conference to honor people with disabilities, orphans, sponsors and exemplary associations in the province; agreed with the policy of adding the Association's function of supporting poor patients and a number of other recommendations and proposals.
