The fifth locality in Nghe An province has reported an outbreak of African swine fever.

(Baonghean.vn) - Test results from the Regional Veterinary Agency III show that samples from sick pigs at the home of Ms. Do Thi Tuyet in Block 20, Quy Hop town (Quy Hop district) tested positive for African swine fever. This is the 5th locality in Nghe An province to experience an outbreak of African swine fever.

Earlier, on April 8th, one of the pigs at Ms. Do Thi Tuyet's family fell ill. She immediately reported it to the local authorities and the veterinary agency.

Upon receiving the report, veterinary officers from Quy Hop district inspected the pig herd. Clinical symptoms showed that the sick pigs exhibited external bleeding, high fever, lethargy, etc. Test results on the afternoon of April 9th ​​confirmed that the sick pigs at Ms. Tuyet's house tested positive for African swine fever. Authorities proceeded to cull the herd according to proper procedures, including 2 sows and 5 market pigs.

Quỳ Hợp district has a large pig population of over 60,000. Immediately after the outbreak, the district directed local authorities to enhance proactive disease prevention and control efforts, especially in areas within the threatened zone and buffer zone. In addition to the chemicals already provided, the district is requesting the province to supply an additional 72 liters to strengthen disease control efforts.

On the morning of April 10th, the People's Committee of Quy Hop District issued urgent document No. 520/QD-UBND announcing the outbreak of African swine fever in Quy Hop town, Quy Hop district. Simultaneously, it declared a threatened outbreak zone encompassing the communes of Chau Dinh, Chau Quang, and Tho Hop.

In addition, Quy Hop district has suspended all pig transportation activities in the affected area and temporarily halted the slaughtering, buying, and selling of pigs and pig products in the declared outbreak area.

Thus, as of now, five localities in Nghe An province have reported African swine fever outbreaks: Quynh Luu, Tan Ky, Nam Dan, Do Luong, and Quy Hop, with eight outbreaks and 161 pigs having been culled.

Quỳ Hợp District has issued Decision No. 521/QD-UBND on the establishment of animal disease control checkpoints at transportation hubs in the district.

Accordingly, the district has established three disease control checkpoints: at the intersection of Chau Dinh bridge leading to the town (the section intersecting with National Highway 48D); at the intersection of National Highway 48C and National Highway 48D; and at the border between Quy Hop town and Tho Hop commune. Each checkpoint has a minimum of two people on duty per shift, operating 24/7 until the district declares the epidemic over.
