China tests laser weapon similar to US Navy prototype
(Baonghean.vn) - The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy is testing a strategic laser system with outstanding features similar to the US Navy's Laser Weapon System (LaWS), an air defense and ground defense weapon that has been in development since 2014.

The Chinese version appeared in a promotional video aired by China Central Television (CCTV) and was seen attached to a ground vehicle.
According to the website Sina.com, this weapon is expected to be deployed both on land and at sea, serving the purpose of air defense or protecting ground-to-ground power in the event of close combat.
The weapon could also be used on the PLA Navy's Type 055 destroyers in coming years as a replacement for the HHQ-10 surface-to-air missile, the site said.
China is also researching and manufacturing a ship-mounted electromagnetic rail gun, an electric weapon used for surface-to-surface and surface-to-air purposes./.
