According to Resolution No. 26 of the Politburo, Nghe An is the central province of the North Central region. This is also the locality with the largest area in the country with 16,480 km²; has 82 km of coastline; 468 km of border, bordering 3 provinces of Laos: Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang and Bolikhamxay.

Nghe An province has 21 administrative units including 17 districts, 1 city, 3 towns, 480 communes, wards and towns, of which 46 communes are in area I, 112 communes are in area II, 94 communes are in area III and 1,175 villages and hamlets with special difficulties; there are 27 border communes.

The mountainous area of ​​Nghe An province has an area of ​​13,745 km², accounting for 83% of the natural area. Population over 3.1 million people (ranked 4th in the country), of which ethnic minorities are 450,000, accounting for 15.2% of the province's population.

In recent years, with the efforts of the Party Committee and people of the province, the attention and support of the Central Government, localities and the domestic and foreign business community, Nghe An's socio-economy has achieved many encouraging achievements.

The first,Economically, Nghe An province has had quite good growth. The total product in the province (GRDP) in 2018 at 2010 converted prices was equivalent to 215 trillion VND, ranking 10th out of 63 provinces and cities; the average increase in the period 2014 - 2018 was 8.0%/year.

Budget revenue increased steadily every year, reaching 14,052 billion VND in 2018, an increase of 1.74 times compared to 2013. Economic structure shifted in the right direction. The proportion of industry, construction and services increased to 79.5%; agriculture, forestry and fishery decreased to 20.5%.

Monday,The business environment has been improved, attracting domestic and foreign investment with positive results. Nghe An's Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2018 ranked 19th out of 63 provinces, with an upward trend in recent times. Nghe An's Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) in 2018 ranked 4th out of 63 provinces and cities.

Tuesday,Regarding the New Rural Construction Program, Nghe An has a total of 431 communes, currently 281 communes have reached the finish line (reaching 50.58%), including 4 communes in poor district 30a, 3 district-level units have completed construction and met new rural standards.

The socio-economic development cooperation program between Ho Chi Minh City and Nghe An province was first officially signed and implemented in 2003. After the Politburo issued Resolution No. 26 on the development direction of Nghe An province until 2020; Ho Chi Minh City was the first locality to review and evaluate the development cooperation process between the two localities and signed the socio-economic development cooperation agreement for the period 2014-2020 on September 19, 2014.
