According to TASS news agency on April 14, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told reporters on the sidelines of the 27th Foreign and Defense Policy Council meeting on April 13 that Russia is closely monitoring NATO's military plans in the Black Sea region.

Responding to a question about Russia's attitude towards NATO's increasing activities in this sea area, Mr. Grushko stated: "Their actions in the South China Sea cannot increase security, they only undermine stability in the region. We will certainly take all preventive measures to neutralize the threats associated with NATO's increased activities in that area."

“We are closely watching how the NATO alliance plans to increase its presence in the region, and we will respond accordingly. We are deeply convinced that security in that region must be ensured, first and foremost, through cooperation between the countries on the Black Sea coast. There are all the necessary tools to do that,” he added.

In recent months, according to TASS, NATO has increased its military presence in the Black Sea. From April 9 to 13, NATO held the Sea Shield 2019 exercise in the region. Naval ships and aircraft from the United States, Bulgaria, Greece, Canada, the Netherlands, Romania and Türkiye, in coordination with representatives of Georgian and Ukrainian forces, took part in the exercise.
