North Korea pledges to continue strengthening its military
(Baonghean.vn) - The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted a statement by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un saying that the country will continue to strengthen its military capabilities to deal with existing threats to the sovereignty of this Northeast Asian country.

"We must always bear in mind that peace can only be guaranteed by strong military capabilities, and we must firmly uphold the principle of self-defense and continue to strengthen the country's defense capabilities," the statement said. The North Korean leader called North Korea's military independence "a powerful treasured sword for defending sovereignty," and warned that the peaceful atmosphere on the Korean Peninsula may not last long.
"The atmosphere of peace that began to prevail on the Korean Peninsula did not last long, and the hostile forces' plot to invade the DPRK has not receded far," he said.
Pyongyang has accused the US and its allies of plotting to invade North Korea. In a cooling-off move last year, US President Donald Trump said he would scale back joint military exercises with South Korea, but his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in February collapsed.
